 COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

                The content covered in this course is based on and derived from the Arkansas Language Arts Frameworks for 9th grade.  There are three framework strands that we will be working from in class this year:  Writing, Reading , and Oral and Visual skills.  Students will cover a unit on short fiction, a unit on novels, a unit on poetry, and a unit on drama.  Each unit will include the study of the basic elements of literature relating to that unit, as well as the reading of selected works of literature.  We will work on writing that includes paragraph writing, essay writing, conventions of writing, and craftsmanship in writing.  Grammar will be taught in conjunction with other class assignments.

 The following list includes the main units of study your child will encounter in 9th Grade English.  It is a general outline and does not include everything that will be covered in this class.

During the course of the school year we will have the opportunity to watch several quality videos which will reinforce the learning in our classrooms.  I feel these activities are educationally significant in the understanding of the material and are not “filler”.  If you do not want your child to participate in any of these film activities and would like them to complete an alternate assignment, please let me know in advance.  I have included the names of the films and some additional information on the following page to allow you to make an informed decision about your child’s participation.
